final copmost

The theme over the next few weeks will now be: Disassembly of a Garden. I'm moving into an apartment soon and it is very sad to leave the garden I have worked hard on over the last few years. I will have a balcony, so plan to continue growing a few things in containers, and am considering learning more about vermicomposting...

So now for the last time I've dug into the "compost cake", bottom of my pile in the backyard. Some of it got mixed into my herb pots.  Most was spread a final time around the perennials I once planted and will be leaving behind: crepe myrtles, hosta, daylilies, young trees...I gave the solo Rhubarb plant an entire bucketful of compost although I seriously doubt this last one will survive another year without me nursing it through the hot summers...
I never thought that working up a sweat to dig through a pile of dirt would make me feel morose.

Not to dispair. Maybe you can find a pea patch close to your new place.

I haven't seen any community gardens around here but it's worth the look.

A community garden is a fantastic idea!! I haven't really looked around me, but I bet I could find one if I tried. Sorry you're having to move Jeane :( But I have to say, I have enjoyed patio gardening!! It just begins to look like a jungle out there because I continue to try to fit more and more where there's little space :p Gardening is indeed an addiction and it's hard to put a limit on what we can plant!!! You'll have fun though learning container gardening!! And I'll look forward to learning new tips from you for myself :) And someone very lucky is going to get to take over that garden of yours! I hope they appreciate it!

It certainly is going to be a new kind of gardening experience for me. And maybe now my houseplants will get more attention and thrive more; I'll have time to pander them.
