The big second-year Beet plant has shot even taller with its flower head. From a distance it looks fuzzy, but up close I can see it's made up of many small flowers. I wonder what color they'll be.
The younger plants are starting to get large leaves, they grew quickly in last week's rain! I'm eager to pull some to eat but know they're not quite there yet.
It looks like only half my Beets came up, as I planted the seeds pretty evenly but there's lots of large gaps in my plot. I'm wondering what I can do to ensure more even germination, but actually pretty happy about it as I already have far many more beets (and looking to be ready to eat in time) than last year.

I love beetroot but our first crop never seems to come to anything. They seem to do ok later in the summer though. Annoying because bought beetroot is not nearly as nice.
My fall beets did better last year, too. This is the first time I've had a decent spring crop of them.
