Very busy past two days, now tired sore muscles but satisfied- everything is done, planted out, the coldframes empty. I didn't have an overcast day to work in, so put the plants in late evening, watered well careful not to get the leaves wet, and watered heavily during the next day, too.
I thought I would leave the lettuce spot fallow but instead planted the amaranth there. Globe:
and Opopeo- already sporting a red plume (reminds me of astilbe or celosia flowers)
I planted the celosias
into gaps in edges of the yard- here between hydrangea, salvia and hostas-
back bed alongside path among nicotiana- (which aren't doing so great, I think I didn't water them often enough when first transplanted)
and either end of the tithonia row-
the last three next to spears of gladiolas
The tithonias actually went in a day earlier- They were my biggest, robust grown-from-seed plants,
but now look so small against the fence!
Also planted out the little cranesbill which revived fine, after being broken-
Peppers went in the ground too
and finally, the bright 'exhibition limelight' coleus- I put them in shade among the mayapples.
I figure as the mayapple dies off in summer heat, coleus will grow in to fill the spot-
here's the bed mulched.
Found one of the plants had darker areas on the leaf, in a kind of checkered pattern-
If this is a 'sport' and cuttings from it will do the same, I think I'll specifically clip from this one in the fall. It's interesting.
