cold nights

Last night and the one before, just under freezing. My garden looked silly- just to be safe I covered the new garden plants. Lettuce patch got a blanket,

Bed of greens covered with a sheet, plastic bottle cloches over smaller plants, wire circle and sheet thrown over the rue. That one wouldn't normally need shelter but I did just transplant it the day before, so didn't want it to suffer too much shock. Pot upended over the lemon balm with an old plate.

Because it was windy, the plastic cloches I put over herbs in the planter boxes got topped with rocks. Even more ridiculous looking, I know.

Next morning I uncovered them too soon, and the dill wilted. It revived fine, once the sun warmed things up.
