one bee

was in my coldframe on a warm day. I heard the slight, rather frantic buzzing and saw it inside the door, against a bit of folded plastic. A tiny part of its anatomy stuck in the fold? Not sure. It was small, like a mason bee or honeybee. I am not as afraid of bees as I used to be. I stooped down, picked up a leaf off the decking, held its dry petiole to the bee, waited for it to carefully crawl on, then I lifted the leaf out of the coldframe in a steady motion and carried it to the railing, where the bee flew off.

I wonder what it's finding out here. There aren't even dandelions or forsythia yet.

Still no sign of carpenter bees around my deck! It will be a relief not to have them rolling around fighting, chewing holes in our structure, and getting themselves stuck in my open coldframe. Yay for a paper bag.
