green bean plants

I was a bit disappointed in the green beans so far. I didn't order new seed from the usual catalogs, but impulsively bought some at the big box store- a well-known large brand name, marked 'organic'. I was surprised at the very poor germination rate. I originally planted fourteen seeds (started indoors) hoping to get a dozen, and ended up with just six.

Then I direct-sowed outside, two or three seeds to a pot - total of twelve- and so far have only got five additional seedlings.

Well, at least the ones that did grow are looking healthy- I keep slapping leaf hoppers off and watching out for japanese beetles. Second lot to come up are quite a bit behind the others in growth but catching up fast.

They're all on the deck this year.
