Some of my Garlics have turned dry and fallen over, so I dug them up to see how they fared. Half were just rotted away, but the others had small bulbs. They need to cure in the sun before I can brush the dirt off and store them, but it's going to rain all day so for the time being I've hung them in the mudroom.
Other Garlics outside are still growing strong.

I just planted garlic on Sunday :D And they're already sprouting little tiny sprouts :D So much fun and so so easy!! I planted 18 cloves so we'll see what kind of harvest I get out of them. Yours look great!
Quick question...when it does come time to harvest them, how long do you let them cure in the sun for? A day? A few days?
It's so easy to grow! and it repels some pests, too. This is my second year growing garlics, from cloves saved off the previous year's garlic. Yay!
You let them dry out until the leaves have all turned brown. You can either lay them out on racks, boards, something where it ventilates, or braid the stems and hang them. It takes a week or two, depending on how hot/dry it is. Don't wash them, you don't want any moisture on it. Just wait until they're totally dry and then brush all the loose soil off. I left mine in the sun last year, but the second lot I pulled I cured in the shade, and that worked better.
