The goldfinch pair have been visiting regularly. I'm starting to recognize their calls- and when I heard it yesterday I was out in the yard with the camera, so I actually got a few photos!
It sits on top of the echinacea seedheads and leans down to pick out the seeds, so it was tricky timing to catch it with the head up.
It was so busy feeding, I was able to sneak a little closer- and tried a different camera setting to catch that bright, clean lemon yellow.
busy, busy-
taking a look around-
I sneaked even closer- it was on one of the echinacea plants just behind the monarda thicket- that's the yellow of its body and black bar of the wings in center behind the leaves.
But it startled away when I was so close. I hope they keep returning!
