corn

My corn is growing and growing! I fed it some compost today, then topped that off with a mulch of grass clippings.
Some of the larger plants have this tuft growing in the middle, which I think will form the ear or tassel.

I almost hate to ask and flaunt my ignorance, but how many ears of corn grow per corn stalk? We're pretty pathetic gardeners here...have never grown corn, but would really love to one of these years.

I think it's usually one ear per stalk. Two maybe if they're spread out and have lots of nutrients per plant. It's the first year I've grown corn, myself. I have about sixteen plants, which I feel is pretty ambitious!
