near spring snow

Actually have a plant in the garden that creates 'winter interest'- leaving the dry stems of turtlehead alone until spring cleanup. Thinking of scattering the seedheads in a corner of the front yard when I cut the stems, see if I can spread it to more areas. It seems to do better here with more sun- or by feeding off the riches of nearby garden compost.
We had about five inches of snow the day before. I covered with cloches the plants that were greening up in herb bed- and most came through just fine. Second-year parsley:
and leeks (I didn't realized they were still in the garden, but two have grown up taller)
perpetual green onions:
These wilt hard when the temperature drops too far, but spring up again quick with warmth and moisture. I cut them all down to the ground, to enjoy first fresh green food of the year
they cleaned up pretty nice, got chopped to make enchiladas, yum
