One of my older trumpet snails has passed on- found the empty shell in the tank and my youngest wanted to have it. She's especially intrigued by the presence of other snail eggs stuck to its shell- from Mavis.
Whom I have moved into the larger tank. The otos have cleaned up the tenner so well, I'm concerned they might run out of algae soon but reluctant to move them into the 38, where all the otos (for whatever reason) died. So I have removed the largest nerite out, to reduce competition for algae, and increased the photoperiod by half an hour, let's see how that does. I am loathe to make any big changes in the tenner, because the otos seem to be doing so well in here I don't want to mess that up.
The trumpet snails don't seem to find either tank ideal. I've noticed in the tenner they don't reach full size- maybe there is just not enough algae and food debris for them. There's quite a few large ones in the 38, but the ends of their shells are stark white- I've read this is the shells eroding from lack of calcium. I could add some, put in cuttlebone pieces, or just leave it be and let their population dwindle somewhat...
