guppy colors

I've noticed that my smaller, male guppy now has bright blue on its sides and stripes on the tail. Of course I couldn't get a photo, but you can glimpse the color:

However when I see him backlit, the stripes look red? and the tail blackish on the edges-

He's in the very top center of this photo- just a glimpse of the tail under tank rim but you can see the red lines that are stripes-

Wonder if he's going to be more brightly colored than I'd expected.
