kale curiosity

My kale has grown huge. I cut just one plant to make a stir-fry or fritatta meal

my hand- to see the size

I never noticed before, the larger leaves have small parts of leaf growing out perpendicular from the main leaf- I don't know how to describe it but tried to take some photos

can see here down on the surface of a leaf bagged in the fridge-

they make me think of the papillae on skin of an octopus- so odd
