My joe pye weed 'chocolate' bloomed in september. I'm not really fond of fluffy white flowers but appreciate that these attracted lots of insects. Bees in particular:
and skipper butterflies.
But the plant fell over- this is looking down at it.
I found it gets too much sun in this spot. When the blooms faded, I dug it up and moved to the other side of the house, under a tree where it will have more shade. I don't know if that will help it avoid collapsing next year, but at least it won't suffer from sun- I had to water it frequently this summer as it wilted in the heat a lot.
