Every year my husband starts anticipating basil-and-tomato dishes and buys me a potted Basil plant from the grocery store, long before my little seed-started plants are ready to go outside. So I put the poor thing in the windowsill and pinch leaves off here and there.
It usually barely makes it to the warmer days. Then I always go ahead and plant it out in the garden, where it droops for a while and then springs up into vivid growth.
Right now my own plants are much smaller. They'll all grow a lot better in soil and sunny weather!
