flower planting

A cloudy day is best for moving plants out, even if a bit uncomfortable for me. First I had to weed the area, pulling up all the little emerging Purslane,
a plant I encouraged last year! but now I want flowers there. Then set all the young plants from their cardpots into the strip between house and driveway.

Tithonia (also called mexican sunflower)

Marigolds

and Cosmos (they look a lot like marigolds at this point, but are taller and a bit more delicate).
None of them look like much right now, but I hope they will soon! I also planted more Marigold seeds to finish off the row, alongside the driveway down to the daylily corner. The Marigold and Tithonia seedlings look pretty sturdy, but the Tithonias appear sad, and a bit droopy. I thought if any of these little plants got attacked by bugs right now, it would be the vulnerable-looking Tithonia, so those got covered with plastic cloches. It makes the side of my house look a bit crummy, I think, but protects the little plants from bugs and wind for the time being.
