algae

It's been hard to tell if I was actually getting any algae to grow on the rocks under light, or how much the Otos were eating off it. Until I put one pulled back out of QT tank in tray next to one that's been sitting under lights. Can definitely see the difference!

(Finally some sun in the window for them now)

You might be reinfecting the ottos through thoes rocks just a thought

How is that? please explain. I put the rocks in clean dechlorinated water with a few drops of liquid plant food. Under lamps or sunshine. Rinse them a little before put in the tank.

Well, yes ok at first I was putting them in water from the home tank but it started to look scummy after a few days so now I've been dumping and refreshing the water every day or so. Didn't mention that here before I realize.

Well when the ottos eat the algae their gerns are deposited on the rock and then the rock is put in to grow algae in med - free water and the germs get strong and plopped back in the tank

Oh dear, I didn't think of that. I don't know how else to feed them, though. They don't seem to eat the wafers, and is just zucchini enough?

Zucchini is fine i dont know uf algae will grow in medicated water but its worth a shot ! :)

They are eating the zucchini, just didn't it would be enough nutrition by itself.
